Well Seasoned: Adventures of a Travelling Cook

Author(s): Flower, Gillian

Food & Drink

One of four children, Gillian Flower grew up on a farm in New Zealand's Waikato region. Like so many of the baby boomer generation, she was reared on a simple but nutritious diet that always featured plenty of fresh meat and dairy products supplemented by home-grown produce. In those days recipe books were few and far between, inspiring Gillian to start a collection of recipes that features here in Well Seasoned and which she still uses and cherishes on a regular basis. In the late 1960s Gillian Flower left New Zealand as a young woman with the intention of seeing as much of the world as possible. Within a relatively short time she discovered that good food was a reason in itself to travel and from that point there was no stopping her. Since then, her quest for culinary knowledge has led her to some amazing places, resulting in a host of memorable experiences. Lavishly illustrated, and including a fabulous assortment of recipes, Well Seasoned details Gillian's many globe-trotting adventures in places as diverse as North Africa, South America, Australia, Nepal and India, Southeast Asia and the Antarctic - to name just a few. Her love of food eventually led her to developing a successful business as a private chef in England and Scotland during which time she was regularly called on to cook for various members of the Royal Family, socialites, wealthy and high-profile business people. Now a caterer with an international client base, Gillian still spends much of the year travelling but she is always happy to return to her home in Sydney's colourful inner-city suburbs of Paddington.
